In Cali and Armenia, our Mobile School partners Samaritanos de la Calle and Tejiendo Sueños de Esperanza mobilised from day one to provide emergency support, emotional and psychosocial assistance, and help with recovery efforts. In this context, the Mobile School and its educational materials have become essential tools for supporting children and families by creating spaces for listening, emotional support, play, self-expression and participation.
Many children have been deeply affected by the disaster. The places that once represented safety and protection, their homes, schools and communities, no longer offer the same sense of security. Through educational activities and meaningful interaction, our partners help children process their experiences, reconnect with others and gradually regain a sense of stability and normality.
Through StreetSmart, we want to be present not only in the immediate aftermath of this disaster, but throughout the long recovery process that follows. By creating safe spaces for learning, dialogue and connection, we aim to support children and communities as they rebuild stability, resilience and hope.
For this reason, we have decided to donate educational materials from our StreetSmart Flagbag methodology to organisations in Pereira and Cali. Starting on September 20, our Partnership Coordinator for Latin America, Jessika Martinez, will travel to Colombia to support local partners in distributing the Flagbag materials and facilitating educational activities with children and families affected by the earthquake. Together with local teams, she will help create safe spaces for play, expression and emotional support during the recovery process in both cities.
