[[en]]Recent statistics paint a grim image of the actual state of children’s rights. According to the last KidsRights Index for 2022 there has been no significant progress in the standards of children’s rights across the world over the last decade. The same conclusion was recently made by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, who stated the respect for children’s rights is in sharp decline because of the effects COVID-19 pandemic, the reality of climate change and increased repression towards child right defenders. [[en]]Unfortunately, the figures only confirm the above. The global number of working children for example, has risen to 160million, an increase of 8.4 million over the last 4 years. About 1 in 4 (24,4%)children is at risk of poverty or social exclusion within the EU, whereas 357million children are still living in extreme poverty worldwide. And the path ahead is full of challenges, as climate change poses a huge threat to the future of the world’s children, as close to 1 billion children are at extremely high risk of being seriously affected.
